VOLUNTEER

The Food Pantry goal is to provide food for hungry people in our community. The needs are continuing to increase. This pantry is run entirely by volunteers.  With your help, we can feed more hungry people than we ever could on our own.  Volunteering provides an opportunity for families, friends, co-workers and groups to work and spend time together while helping others.  If you are interested in volunteering, email manager@grovecityfoodpantry.org.

FOOD PANTRY MANAGERS

Food Pantry Managers manage the food pantry for a one-month period, two to three times per year.

Managers perform the following tasks:

Assure that there is an adequate supply of food in the pantry at all times to provide for families who visit the pantry each day.

This involves:

Reviewing the food list from the Mid-Ohio FoodBank and ordering any items necessary. Picking up food ordered at the Mid-Ohio FoodBank.
Purchasing ground meat, margarine, and bread (and any other food items that are needed) from local grocery stores.
Receiving and organizing food items that are donated and brought to the food pantry.
Moving food items from the Southwest Blvd. Mini-Storage to the food pantry.
Troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise.
Follow up on any phone calls or inquiries that come to the pantry.
Prepare end-of-month statistical report for the Mid-Ohio FoodBank.

FOOD PANTRY STOCKERS

Food Pantry Stockers volunteer one day per week for approximately 1-2 hours. This time may be in the morning or evening.

Stockers perform the following tasks:

Restock the shelves in the pantry with food that is locked in the storage areas.
Check the free shelf to make sure any perishable items are fresh and discard any that are old or spoiled.
If time permits, may sort any bags of food that have been brought to the pantry and left in the storage area.
Make note of any food items that need to be replenished so that managers can restock

DAILY FOOD PANTRY VOLUNTEERS

Daily Volunteers work one day each month from 2-4 p.m.

Volunteers perform the following tasks:

Assist families/persons who come to the pantry in selecting food items from a specified list.
Pack these food items in bags/boxes.
Complete a daily log of persons coming to the pantry.

Thank You to All Our Volunteers!

SPECIAL EVENTS

During the year, there are special collections by various organizations.  The collections then need sorted and moved to the Grove City Food Pantry and its storage facility.  Help is always needed and appreciated on these dates!

- The US Postal Collection collect food items in early May.

- In December, all of the area schools collect canned goods in good natured competition.  The members of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church then create baskets in this “White Christmas” event.  The leftover food items then need sorted, inventoried and taken to storage.  Your help would be very welcome!
